More than 21 percent of commercial vehicles in Southeast Europe will be equipped with telematics systems by 2024

Ljubljana, Slovenia – 18 February 2021

According to a new market research from analyst firm Ergo Institute, the number of commercial vehicles in Southeast Europe in 2018 was 12.2 million. Of the total number of commercial vehicles in use in the region, 56.6% were light commercial vehicles and 16.7% were trucks.

The research shows that there are approximately 150 telematics solution providers in Southeast Europe – about 5-10 in each country. More companies can be identified in EU countries and Turkey, while fewer telematics solution providers can be found in Albania, Moldova, Kosovo, Montenegro and North Macedonia.

According to the research, 1.800,000 commercial vehicles in Southeast Europe had already been equipped with telematics solutions by the end of 2019. That means that telematics systems had already been implemented in 14.2% of all commercial vehicles in the region in 2019. Growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 13.34%, the number of equipped vehicles is expected to grow from 2 million in 2020 to 3.3 million in 2024.

The market penetration rate will grow from 15.2% in 2020 to 21.4% in 2024. Slovenia is still the market with the largest share of equipped commercial vehicles (approximately 50%), followed by Croatia with market penetration rate more than 35%, and Hungary, Bulgaria, Turkey and Romania, which are estimated to have a market penetration rate of 15 to 20%.

Alenka Bezjak Mlakar, PhD, the author of the research paper, commented: “We estimate that identified regional players monitor 75% of all equipped vehicles in the region. Regional players will play an important role in the future growth of the telematics for fleet management in the region. It can be estimated that in the next 5 years the total number of commercial vehicles in use in Southeast Europe will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 4% or approximately 0.5-0.6 million commercial vehicles per year.”

These findings are part of Ergo Institute’s research Commercial vehicles in Southeast Europe: Telematics solutions and perspectives (more info: www.telematics-conference.com/seeurope/market-research). The research is part of Telematics conference & expo, which organizes telematics focused events. For more information about recent events please visit ceeurope.telematics-conference.com.

CloudTalk Online 2021 Brings Together IT Professionals of Eurasia for the 2nd Time

Eurasia's most comprehensive and widely attended online cloud technology event "CloudTalk Online Matchmaking Summit" will host household names in the cloud computing sector across the region for a second consecutive year on 26-27 May 2021.

Indicating his preference to exploit the full potential of online events in 2021 given the continuation of the current pandemic and the accompanying health hazards, CloudTalk CEO Burkay Yapağcıoğlu stated that the 2020 CloudTalk Online Matchmaking Summit offered over 2,000 technology professionals from 20 countries the opportunity to engage with 60+ international cloud experts in 5 different halls.

“We had an extraordinary digital conference and fair experience for our participants in 2020”, said Yapağcıoğlu, before adding that their 2021 goals are more ambitious and that they expect to host more than 3,000 participants this year.

Opportunity to Meet Tech Mammoths with a Brand New Fair Experience

Over 124,000 interactions, 1,200 one-on-one meetings, 570 hall meetings, an average of 300 viewers per session, 3,700 message deliveries and 5,000+ profile viewing were among some of the feats achieved in last year’s event. Tech mammoths such as Alibaba Cloud, Acronis, Cloudflare, Mailchannels, Synacor, and ResellerClub met with participants in the virtual foyer area during the CloudTalk Online Matchmaking Summit 2020, making it the number one networking event of Eurasia that linked individual participants within their respective fields and to the job opportunities they had been looking for.

Aiming to bring together more than 100 major tech enterprises and over 3,000 IT professionals in the virtual foyer area this year, the 2021 event ensures that participants have the opportunity to link with a greater number of prospects in the cloud technology sector.

Digital Infrastructure that Will Enable You to Reap the Maximum Gain from the Event

CloudTalk Online Matchmaking Summit facilitates professional time management by allowing meeting plans with thousands of participants from 20+ countries across Eurasia before and during the conference, offers group video calls in the form of roundtables in networking lounges, enables participants to engage in conversation with people of their choosing through the chat feature, and allows everyone to see one another thanks to its open-participant interface. With its notification and reminder features, the interface guarantees that all participants reap the maximum gain from the event by making it easier for them to attend the presentations in the 5 different halls sorted according to their interests.

Broad Participation Opens the Door to New Opportunities in the Business World

In addition to global tech giants such as Amazon, IBM, Microsoft, and Alibaba Cloud, the participant profiles of the 2020 event consisted of C-level IT managers, IT specialists, network and system administrators, security managers, data centre specialists, cloud architects, software developers, product managers, sales and business development representatives, independent consultants and end users.

Don't be Late for Registration

Confirming that CloudTalk Online Matchmaking Summit 2021, which will take place on 26-27 May, is now open for registration, Burkay Yapağcıoğlu stated that the process of sending meeting requests and creating personal agendas to match participants with one another will begin 3 days before the event, and that all registered participants and partners can continue communicating on the platform for 2 additional days after the event.

Reminding their limited preparation for a flawless communication management of participants and partners, Yapağcıoğlu stated that they are extremely pleased with the interest this year, despite the registrations having been just opened.

Behind the Scenes of the Decentralized Web Principles

Posted by ed sheeran pro 0 komentar

Since 2016, a global community of developers, organizers, entrepreneurs, and academics have gathered to share ideas and approaches to building a Decentralized Web. The DWeb they dreamt of would stand in stark contrast to today’s Web, where a handful of powerful, centralized corporations rule over our data, social networks, and network infrastructure. The DWeb would enable people to have control over their own digital lives. In order to “lock the Web open,” DWeb infrastructure would be distributed itself, in ways that could be foolproof against concentrated control. And as Internet Archive founder Brewster Kahle also said, it’s a Web that needs to be more “private, secure, and fun”.

While several thousand people have participated in DWeb-related events and discussions organized by the Internet Archive, we still lacked a general consensus about the principles we collectively stand for. What values do we share beyond giving people more control, and not being “centralized”? What specific features did DWeb projects need to have to be considered, well, DWeb? These were the underlying questions that motivated us to create these DWeb Principles.

What are the shared values of the DWeb community?

The Internet Archive has been one of the lead organizers of DWeb events since 2014. As one of the world’s largest repositories of online knowledge and culture, the Internet Archive has a stake in ensuring that the Web remains free and open. It has brought together those who are transparent about their approaches and are interested in engaging across projects to learn and collaborate.

Notes from a brainstorming session at DWb Camp 2019. Red and yellow post-its are scattered across poster papers that say "As a contributor I want...", "As a visitor I want..." and "As a company I want..."
Notes from a brainstorming session at DWb Camp 2019.

It would have been impossible to capture what the DWeb means for everyone in these principles. That’s why from the onset, this project was meant to exemplify the values of a specific group of people—those who continue to show up and engage in these conversations about the DWeb. That includes large organizations, community networks, individual developers, policy people, artists, and journalists. Each in their own way, they’re creating building blocks of a Decentralized Web that actively invites participation.

Why create yet another set of principles?

As stewards, we felt that we needed to crystallize the shared vision of this community, to demonstrate how and why we are building a Decentralized Web. Our aim is to identify our guiding principles through discussion and distill them into a living document that we can point to. It is to create a set of practical guiding values as we design and build the Web of the future.

But beyond the document itself, the objective is to help set some ethical norms for the DWeb. If we all see ourselves as contributors to the Web, we hope these values will help people examine what they are building and for what purpose. It is to inspire projects that are driven by these values, and to hold each other accountable to ensure we continue to uphold them.

How We Developed DWeb Principles Version 1.0

John Conor Ryan and I began to work on these principles beginning in May 2020. Wendy Hanamura, Director of Partnerships at the Internet Archive, asked us jointly to lead this project. Though we agreed on many things, we also brought starkly different perspectives and experiences around what it meant to build tech for good. Those differences created a healthy environment for open exchange.

So how do you develop something as centralized as a unified set of principles for a diverse, decentralized group? In order to have something to work with, the two of us began by creating a draft ourselves. It was meant to be a starting point, a mound of clay that could be reformed and moulded by active participants in the DWeb space.

Development Timeline

From there, we went through several rounds of reshaping, with the editing process involving over 30 individuals. These were the phases of its development:

Phase 1: Initial Draft — The stewards of the project, Mai and John, drafted a rough document for the DWeb community to discuss and consider. It was commented on and edited by other contributors. (May – Jun 2020)

Phase 2: First Feedback — Introduced the project to individuals in the DWeb community and solicited their comments and ideas. Presented the working draft at the DWeb Meetup on July 29, 2020. (Jun – Sep 2020)

Phase 3: Focus Groups — Held a series of focus group conversations with DWeb community members about the Principles to discuss intent, purpose, and future application (Sep – Dec 2020).

Phase 4: Revise Principles — Incorporate feedback from focus group discussions into the draft Principles. (Dec 2020)

Phase 5: Second Feedback & Gather Support — Solicit final round of feedback on the Principles. (Jan 2021)

Phase 6: Publish the Principles — Launch the first version of the Principles on the DWeb website. Hold DWeb Meet-up to launch the new website and present Principles. (Feb 2021)

The Result

Every single word in this document was thoroughly and repeatedly dissected and examined. What were the implications of certain terminologies? For example, what is presumed when we use the word “empower” versus “enable”? Why did we decide not to use the term “user”, and instead opt for “people” or “individual”? We worked with the contributors to be as deliberate as possible with our language.

It was through this process that we illuminated something crucial about the aims of the Decentralized Web community: That it is about more than the technical infrastructure, it is about social and organizational norms and aspirations. Technical specifications can enable or prevent certain outcomes, of course. But what is fundamental and subversive about this Decentralized Web movement is that it is about elevating both individual and collective human agency. It is about creating more just and equitable relations between people, and creating networks that help us address the urgent challenges, not exacerbate them.

A group discussion inside the Dome of Decentralization at DWeb Camp 2019. A group of people sit inside a white geodesic dome.
A group discussion inside the Dome of Decentralization at DWeb Camp 2019

A large part of this project was reflecting on the inherited dynamics that we take for granted with the internet we have today. By putting into words our shared ideals for a better web of the future, we had to shed certain assumptions about what constitutes success.

Our contributors continued to point to other sets of principles that articulate values raised in this one, but often with more depth and clarity. We decided that it was important to acknowledge those other principles. The DWeb Principles are not designed to supplant these other frameworks, nor does pointing to them mean that all of those in this DWeb community agree with all that is said in them. It is meant to signify that we are not alone in our pursuit for more fun, equitable, and secure networked systems, and stand alongside these other communities’ efforts.

This process resulted in five overarching principles, with sub points that expand upon them. The principles are ordered from specific to general, beginning with more explicit technical features of a DWeb:

1) Technology for Human Agency
2) Distributed Benefits
3) Mutual Respect
4) Humanity
5) Ecological Awareness

What Comes Next

We hope this is an accurate snapshot of the types of concerns that this DWeb community engages with and upholds as we strive to build better networks. We hope people will read it, share it, and even take what they agree with and remix it if they’d like. If someone were to be inspired by these principles, adapt it for their own needs and put forth their own version, we would see that as a success on its own.

Being explicit about what a project stands for is a big first step in establishing trust, not just among its contributors, but also with the people who use their tools and services. A strong value statement allows others to hold organizations accountable, to ensure that they continue striving for their highest aspirations while doing all they can to avoid making harmful tradeoffs.

At least knowing where projects stand for, at least knowing what they care about, is a big first step in our ability to know which projects are worth investing in with our time, energy and attention. These principles define what values the DWeb community stands for, not just what it stands against. We hope this document will help guide those who are already creating the building blocks of the DWeb, and appeal to those who want to join the movement to build better, more resilient decentralized webs of connection and knowledge.

Hidden Story Behind Big Ideas That Sell

Posted by ed sheeran pro 0 komentar

It’s not about your product.

It’s about your story.

Of course, you need to have a great product that delivers a solution for a desperate problem.

But no one will find out how great your product is until you get their attention.

That’s where your BIG IDEA comes in.

What’s newsworthy about this?

In most markets you’re going to have dozens of competitors who started before you.

Why should someone pay listen to your story when dozens of bigger, more well-known competitors already have their attention?

You can’t just overwhelm the prospect with benefits and power words.

You need a story that stands out in an oversaturated market.

I often put on my interviewer hat when helping a client improve their website copy.

It can almost sound like an interrogation.

Who is this product for?

Why did you choose this audience?

Is there anyone pulling the strings behind the scenes of the problem?

Did you experience the problem? How did you solve it?

What’s different about your solution?

Why is that important?

How did you come up with that idea?

Who else was involved in it?

Here’s one of my favorite questions…

“With all the solutions already available in your overcrowded marketplace, why did you decide to release yet another solution?”

All of these questions are designed to uncover the hidden story.

Eventually one of their responses makes me exclaim, “Wait, what did you just say?”

There’s the story.

It stopped me in my tracks and we had to dig deeper.

What about when you’re coming up with website copy for your own product or service?

You have to put yourself in the interviewer’s shoes. Ask yourself the questions.

In today’s crowded marketplaces, it’s not enough just to have the same benefits as the next website.

You need a story that stands out.

It becomes a shortcut to a buying decision, because it illustrates why someone should choose you over every other option.

That’s why when Doberman Dan and I put together the 60-Minute Copy Cure.

We didn’t just include 20 copy templates of our most successful promotions, we also took the time to analyze all 20 of the Big Idea stories.

Plus, we included a step-by-step formula to help you discover your big idea…and know when you have all the pieces of the puzzle for attracting red-hot buyers even in overcrowded markets.

And we included 9 of our favorite Big Idea story starters.

The 60-Minute Copy Cure includes “fill-in-the-blanks” copy. AND — as if that’s not already easy enough — we show exactly what to put in the “fill-in-the-blanks” parts.

There’s no other possible way to make this any simpler or any easier for you!

3 Types of SaaS Businesses Likely to Thrive in a Post-COVID World

3 Types of SaaS Businesses Likely to Thrive in a Post-COVID World

At this point, it seems safe to say that the novel coronavirus represents one of the most significant business disruptions in the past several decades. Although a transition to remote work and e-commerce was already in progress, the pandemic moved that shift forward with breakneck speed, forcing it on many businesses that were in no way prepared. Unsurprisingly, many of them have had a great deal of difficulty adapting.

In a survey released in April, insurance agency Main Street America found that two-thirds of small businesses would have to shut their doors if the lockdown had persisted for five months or more. Another 30% of businesses indicated they would be unable to even survive a two-month lockdown.

That isn't to say that all industries have suffered from the pandemic, mind you.

Many Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) businesses, in particular, have thrived in the new climate created by COVID-19. Even when the pandemic eventually ends, it is likely that many of these organizations will continue along at their current momentum, as both businesses and consumers turn to the digital realm for support and entertainment. Those particular businesses include:

  1. Digital collaboration platforms
  2. Telemedicine
  3. Gaming and media

With that in mind, here are the details as to why we believe these SaaS companies will perform incredibly well in a post-COVID world.

1. Digital collaboration platforms

Business to Business (B2B) software is arguably the biggest winner of the pandemic, a trend likely to continue as the world gradually returns to some semblance of normalcy.

As mentioned, COVID-19 forced many organizations to move, nearly overnight, from a traditional office to a fully distributed, remote workforce. Most lacked the necessary in-house infrastructure to support this transition. As a result, they turned to digital collaboration tools.

Platforms like Zoom, Slack, Uberconference, Clockify, Notion, Fuze, Quite, Microsoft SharePoint, and Google Drive have experienced a massive surge in usage over the past several months. Zoom, in particular, saw usage up approximately 300 percent in the early days of quarantine, per JP Morgan analyst Sterling Auty. Microsoft, meanwhile, mentioned in a March blog post that it saw a 775% increase in calls and meetings on Microsoft Teams, its business communication platform.

While subscribers and usage will likely decline at least slightly once people begin to return to the office, remote work is nevertheless here to stay.

SaaS Businesses Likely to Thrive in a Post COVID World digital collaboration platforms

Research and consulting firm Global Workplace Analytics, for instance, predicted in a recent survey that by the end of 2021, as many as 30% of employees will work from home multiple days a week, while 80 percent of respondents indicated a desire to work from home "at least some of the time."

It's not just in the business realm that this software saw increased usage, either. In an effort to cope with the isolation and stress of quarantine, many people began using videoconferencing tools to stay in touch with friends and family. Digital date nights, movie nights, and meetups became common.

It went beyond even this, however, as noted by The Wall Street Journal.

Fitness courses offered via Facebook and Instagram live. Trivia games played via smartphone apps. Board games played over video chat. Digital concerts, webinars, virtual conferences, and online events.

While it is likely that many will return to physical gatherings and events the moment it is safe to do so, some experts have predicted that virtually connecting with people will, for many, become the new normal. Large video chats present a compelling alternative to physical meet-ups between busy adults, many of whom might otherwise be unable to meet and speak with their friends and loved ones. As a result, though usage will likely decline in the consumer space just as in the business space, online social gatherings are here to stay.

2. Telemedicine

Telemedicine isn't exactly a new field, nor are the underlying technologies particularly revolutionary.  It has, for years, allowed individuals living in remote regions to gain access to medical advice and diagnoses which they might otherwise be unable to receive. With the fears surrounding the spread of COVID-19, however, telemedicine has seen an even sharper upturn in usage than collaboration software.

In April, for instance, software & services review site TrustRadius measured the number of impressions each SaaS category had received since the beginning of the pandemic. Telemedicine led the pack by a massive margin, seeing a 613% increase in usage. Although the site acknowledged that this sharp growth had likely already reached its peak, it will remain an incredibly useful tool even post-COVID.

To that end, the American Medical Association has predicted that moving forward, virtual healthcare could account for approximately $250 billion of health insurance spending in the United States, up from an estimated $3 billion. For many, telehealth is a matter of significant convenience, allowing us to phone in from the comfort of our own home instead of waiting for several hours in a doctor's office. It will also allow mobility-impaired far easier access to physicians and by association the medical care they require.

The AMA also reported that, according to consulting firm McKinsey & Company, 57% of healthcare providers view telemedicine in a more favorable light than before the pandemic, whilst 64% indicate that they would be more comfortable using it in their own practice.

As such, although the barrier for entry into the SaaS telemedicine space is relatively high and saddled with myriad regulatory requirements, it nevertheless has incredible potential for growth.

3. Gaming and media

We need not tell you how much online gaming and media streaming services increased in usage during the pandemic. You have likely experienced this surge firsthand, at least in part. After all, when one is stuck in their own home, what else is there to do but find solace in digital entertainment?

Analyst and consulting firm Deloitte predicted early in the pandemic that media streaming services would greatly benefit from the pandemic, noting several significant increases in both viewership and usage. Multinational financial services firm J.P. Morgan, meanwhile, noted the increasing expansion of the streaming landscape in May, with countless new streaming platforms coming to market. Video games, too, received a mention in the firm's analysis, with both increased usage and increased viewership on streaming platforms like Twitch.

It is important to note here that not all game developers and publishers count as SaaS companies.  At the same time, however, SaaS has strong roots in the games industry, from digital distribution platforms like Steam to online games like World of Warcraft and League of Legends. And given that the vast majority of gaming is making the shift from offline and single-player to online and multiplayer, the future of gaming and SaaS are inextricably linked — and gaming is, by association, a fast-growing SaaS sector with a great deal of revenue potential.

Many of the associated apps have uses beyond this space, as well. Apps like Netflix Party and Discord, for example, help people experience movies and media together. And more people are creating digital content than ever before. Online content creation was already reaching a fever pitch, and COVID-19 has resulted in a surge like never before —meaning there is an opportunity for content hosting here, as well.

Again, once the worst of the pandemic has finally passed, we may see a slight decline in usage for both gaming and streaming media. At the same time, with such considerable surges in users and viewership, the outlook for these two entertainment sectors is highly positive. As we move from 2020 into 2021, expect digital entertainment to continue along its current growth path.

Adapting to a newly digital world

The coronavirus pandemic didn't just change the world. It continues to do so. As a direct result of COVID-19, we've seen the rise and fall of multiple industries and sectors, alongside a massive shift in how we both live and work.

These shifts, as are many of the changes that result from periods of great turmoil, are permanent. Just as the recent Great Recession led to the creation of companies like Uber, Airbnb, and Venmo, COVID-19 will see the rise and fall of many new businesses, and lasting changes across many industries. The SaaS businesses described above are the clear winners in this shift, but they are not the only victors.

SaaS businesses of every category likely have a positive outlook moving forward. As does any organization that can effectively leverage SaaS. This software is, after all, one of the driving factors in digitization, and will continue to support our march towards a virtual future, even once the pandemic is finally behind us.

Giving “Last Chance Books” New Life Through Digitization

Posted by ed sheeran pro 0 komentar
The Dedication of Books by H.B. Wheatley (1887), as presented for scanning. View the digitized book online.

Sometimes they arrive tied up in string because their binding is broken. Others are in envelopes to protect the brittle pages from further damage.

Aging books are sent from libraries to the Internet Archive for preservation. Thanks to the careful work of the nearly 70 people who scan at digitization centers in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada, the books get a second life with a new audience.

Scanners sometimes call these “Last Chance Books” and they take pride in restoring them. As they turn the pages one at time to be photographed and digitized, they develop a daily cadence—but it must be adjusted with fragile materials.

“We do our best with the flaking or cracking pages,” said Andrea Mills, digitization program manager for the Internet Archive stationed in Toronto, Canada. “You have to be really cautious that the flake doesn’t fall off and cover a word. It’s almost like a puzzle.”

Elizabeth MacLeod, demoing a Scribe in the foyer of the Internet Archive in San Francisco, pre-COVID.

Some books that land at the Internet Archive digitization centers date back to the 1700s. They are fiction and nonfiction, journals and pamphlets covering a range of topics. And, it can be surprising to learn what reviving the material means to patrons.

“We chuckled when we digitized a book on sea captains. We thought – who will care? And then a year later, it had hundreds of views,” said Elizabeth MacLeod, senior manager of satellite digitization services who manages remote operations out of Wilmington, North Carolina.

Digitization helps preserve materials that are no longer in circulation at their holding library because they are falling apart. It also gives new exposure to books that are out of print that may otherwise be forgotten.

Both Mills and MacLeod began working for the Internet Archive more than 10 years ago as book scanners – also known as Scribe operators. Mills has an arts degree in jewelry design and teaching; MacLeod studied biology. They were both drawn to the mission of the Internet Archive and share a passion of connecting people with resources.

Over the years, Mills and MacLeod have worked closely with librarians and archivists around the world to digitize their collections, learning more with each project. They now manage digitization and support sites with training and best practices, many embedded in libraries, in 10 countries and upwards of 30 locations. Digitizing is a somewhat solitary task and some people “get in the zone” while scanning; others are very chatty or listen to music, Mills said.

Many employees have worked together for nearly a decade and there is a friendly, collaborative vibe at the centers. “We have all sorts of people—artists, printers and photographers. They are people who are meticulous and love books,” Mills said. A recent viral video shared on the Internet Archive’s Twitter account features Scribe operator Eliza Zhang, who has worked at the Archive for more than ten years. Book conservators from larger institutional partners also offer additional training for Internet Archive operators on best practices for handling their unique collections.

MacLeod says the scanners are all committed to providing a service to readers and it’s satisfying to help people with disabilities connect with books, “It’s energizing to be part of an organization that is thinking outside the box,” she said. “I want people to be able to have more access to whatever they are trying to find.”

Added Mills: “I’m an information junky. I love the search and the hunt and the finding the answer. The power of the internet and digitization is that you can find that answer faster. It just sort of opens up the possibilities of what can do.”

Camilla Ghisleni e Victor Delaqua: How Can Gender Impact the Future of Urban Life? editor_iot 16/02/2021 - 08:37

...."In her text Gender and territorial planning: an approximation (2007), Paula Santoro states that, when it comes to planning and building urban spaces, the perspective of gender is fundamental because it explores the boundaries between individual and political spheres, public and domestic territories, attempting to recognize cultural diversity as the key to a new way of city planning. In other words, we are not all the same and, therefore, our demands for cities and infrastructure are different."
